Eastcourt - National School

The National School was opened in 1856 and remained in use until being replaced by the current modern structure in 1990. Upon its closure it reverted to the Ailesbury Estate and lay boarded up for a few years until it was bought and converted into a beautiful house. The middle picture is of the attached schoolmaster's house (to the right of the first picture), a separate dwelling now called April Cottage. The new school was much welcomed by both pupils and staff but such was the lack of planning that its facilities have had to be supplemented by temporary classrooms since the day it opened.
