With the Vicars so often being non-resident, the curate probably had a more telling influence on the lives of the villagers. Much of this data has been gleaned from the parish registers and so, while an invaluable record, it cannot claim to be complete.

Appointed 20/2/1639 and relicensed 21/10/1641

CAROL EASTON BA 1705

Appointed 24th October 1705.

JACOB BARCLAY MA 1713

Appointed 20th September 1713. He is possibly the vicar of Hungerford who resigned in 1730 and the vicar of West Isley who died in 1751.

JOHN ANDERSON MA 1716

Ordained 23rd September 1716 and appointed as curate in Burbage the following day.

THOMAS DILLON BA 1719

Appointed 21st September 1719. Possibly the son of William Dillon of Clyst Honiton, Devon. Gained his BA from Balliol College in 1717, aged 22.

PHILIP COLLYER 1720

During 1720 the Commons of the parish were enclosed.

ARTHUR PRICE BA 1726

Appointed 16th April 1726.

HENRY JENNER 1765 (or 1766?)- 1788

[first Baptism entry 13th April 1766, last on 30th December, 1788; WRO 1678/6]

Later Rector of Rockhampton, Gloucestershire, Vicar of Great Bedwyn and Domestic Chaplain to the Earl Of Ailesbury. Died April 4, 1798 aged 61 while still resident in the parish. Buried at Burbage April 5, 1798. Henry was the elder brother of Edward Jenner - the creator of the smallpox inoculation.

From 1772 - 1841 the Vicar was non-resident.

[first baptism January 25, 1835, last recorded baptism March 14, 1841 but a resident Vicar had arrived by Dec 27, 1840. When the Rev Gale was absent during 1845/6, an Officiating Minister stood in so Mr. Wilson must have gone by then. Note also that during his time an Officiating Minister called H. WILSON often deputised for HJ Wilson (could this be the retired curate above?); WRO 1678/10]
