The Last Will & Testament of George Gale |
Written 30th June 1852
- To Harriet Hillier and Charlotte Hillier, illegitimate
daughters of Harriet Hillier of Burbage, now the wife of John Sloper of
Collingbourne; £200 each.
- To Elizabeth Laura Ruddle and Georgina Ruddle, illegitimate
daughters of Mary Ruddle of Burbage; £200 each. Being under age the sums
are to be invested and they are to be given the interest until each reach 21
when they receive the principal. If either should die before reaching 21 then
the other sister gets her share. If both should die before reaching 21 then the
mother receives the interest from the £400 until her death then the
principal is divided between the Hillier sisters.
- £1000 to be invested and the interest divided between his
brother William Henry Gale and his sister Elizabeth Hill. If either die then
£100 is added to the survivor's investment and the other £400 is
divided between the 4 illegitimate girls. Upon the death of the surviving
sibling the £600 is divided between the 4 illegitimate girls.
- His executors are his brother William Henry Gale and his
brother-in-law Joseph Hill. Witnesses; Richard Edmonds Price, surgeon of
Marlborough & Thomas John Turnbull, gentleman of Durley.

CODICIL - 6th June 1855
- Harriet Hillier (the illegitimate daughter) is added to the
executor list.
- All his estate over and above that mentioned in his will is
given to his brother and he requests that William Henry should leave the value
of the surplus in his will to his 4 mentioned legatees.
- Witnesses; Ann Smith of Durley and Hannah Hatter of
Burbage.

PREROGATIVE COURT OF CANTERBURY - 23rd April 1857
- Thomas John Turnbull, gentleman of Durley and Ann Smith,
spinster of Durley gave evidence to confirm the authenticity of the signatures
before the commissioner, Thomas Stanton.
