Windsor Trees at Burbage

Children Commemorate Coronation

Trees, the gift of the Commissioners of Crown lands and sent from Windsor Great Park, were planted by representatives of the younger generation of Burbage last weekend to mark the Coronation.

On Friday walnut, with common and copper beeches, were planted on the Council housing estate, and oaks and beeches to form an avenue from Eastsands Corner to Ten Trees. The representatives were drawn from the Village School, and those who planted the trees were Jennifer Williams, Victor Wheeler, Christopher Wheeler (High Street), Pat Davis, Susan Perry, Rosalind Westall, Alex and Kathleen McGahey, Christopher Wheeler (Church Farm), Stephen Kaiser, Angela Harding, Pat Barnett, Paul Hitchcock, Ian Waters and Trevor Mabbutt. Trees were planted on behalf of the Brownie Pack by Paulette Goddard, Mavis West and Jean Nickson.

On Saturday morning a weeping willow, ashes and walnuts were planted at Seymour, and walnuts and chestnuts on Stibb Green. The chosen planters were representatives drawn from Pewsey and Marlborough Secondary and Grammar Schools - Wendy Wheeler, Iona Talbot, Daphne Waters, Robin Heath, Robert Witts, Tyrell Davis, Gelda Davis and Kay Norris. Trees were planted on behalf of the local Girl Guides by Juniper Johnson, Marie West, Wendy Mabbutt and Jennifer Davis.

One tree was also planted at Stibb Green by Miss Highett, who has always lived near the spot.

Arrangements for the planting were made by the Vicar (Rev. C E L Harris), in conjunction with Mr D Blanchard and Mr B T Ford, and among others present was Mr S Nutley (chairman of the Parish Council).

Thanks were expressed to Mr Blanchard for allowing members of the Manor Farm staff to follow the planters for the purpose of erecting protection guards.
